One clever Labrador decided to start “paying” so that he can get his biscuits anytime he wants. Mr.Dog was inspired by observing how students and teachers pay for the food at the school cafe.

And you know what is interesting ? He used leaves as money to buy his snacks.

According to The Dodo, the black Labrador, named Negro, appears to have learned how he could get snacks at the school cafe by paying with leaves.

According to the teacher Angela Garcia Bernal, Negro, beloved resident at the Diversified Technical Education Institute of Monterrey Casanare, in Colombia, has probably learned how the students give cash and get something in return at the cafeteria and tried to copy that act by paying leaves!

Here is an interview with Bernal, The teacher :

Negro first aware of the cafeteria when the students always get him cookies from the little store on campus.

“He would go to the store and watch the children give money and receive something in exchange,” Bernal told The Dodo.

“Then one day, spontaneous, he appeared with a leaf in his mouth, wagging his tail and letting it be known that he wanted a cookie.”

However, it seems that the clever Labrador just cannot resist when he knows there are sweet treats sold at the cafe.

The school’s faculty is taking care of Negro who provides him shelter, food and water.

“He comes for cookies every day. He always pays with a leaf. It is his daily purchase,” Gladys Barreto, the store attendant said.

However they make sure that Negro only gets two cookies at most per day due to health concern and probably no man can get meal with the payment made by leaves. But mind well he is a dog !

“When you first see it, you almost want to cry,” Bernal said. “He’s found a way to make himself understood. He’s very intelligent.”

They also ensure to only give him treats that are safe for dogs to consume.
